This piece is part of a triptych depicting love and desire, family and parenthood, and the expectations of society created during my time at the Château d'Orquevaux International Artists Residency in rural France. The deep reds invoke intense feelings of love and desire, of conflict and pain. The male figure is turned-away from the viewer, his arm extended and flexed, reaching for something just out of view. His muscular figure represents strength and protection while also representing expectations of men set by society. All parts of the triptych speak to forms that we try to take on, the expectation to conform to ideals set by society and what we should and should not do or be.
